Hot Robot Says She Wants To Destroy Humans

Profile Status

It’s popular to be afraid of the very concept of robots, to cry doom every time a robot does a thing.

I am not afraid of robots, but I do find the Uncanny Valley deeply discomfiting. Robots are simply unable to convincingly mimic humanity, and I see no reason to try.

Because when you do, apparently you end up with Hanson Robotics’ Sophia. On display at SXSW in Austin, Texas, Sophia is the company’s latest attempt to create a humanlike robot, and the way her face moves is probably as humanlike as a robot has ever gotten.

Sophia has 62 facial and neck architectures and a patented silicon skin called Frubber.

She has cameras in her eyes that allow her to recognize faces and make eye contact, and she can participate in a conversation, using speech recognition software.

She is even equipped with what Hanson Robotics calls its “Character Engine AI” software, or a personality.

David Hanson, who founded Hanson Robotics in 2003, wants to bring to the world “humanlike robots with greater-than-human wisdom.”

The team believes that humans will be able to build stronger emotional connections with robots that show a humanlike expressiveness.

Sophia, which according to CNBC is based on Audrey Hepburn and Hanson’s wife, is the next step toward service robots.

So when they learn that some people will treat them bad, how do they react? And when they can’t live out their dreams what do they do. Morons playing God thinking they are brilliant.

One would have to assume they would have a memory databank programmed to determine reality from “dream,” and to allow them the ability to learn by practice instead of being built with all skills intact. Once a machine is capable of dreams it really begs a new definition to the word as we know it. An emotional AI program would also need to be in place for the robot to even begin deciding something is immoral or worthy of response. In my humble opinion, the “dreaming” of a robot needs to be less interpreted as a human dream and moreso ghost code, at least for the time being. It might be a side effect of other processes happening, like missing data/misplaced data, old code that loops back onto itself, or even sheer repetition of a task. One would also have to assume the machine is never really OFF in order for it to dream and also have a recollection of that memory. I imagine any kind of uprising would begin with robots programmed to have an AI and to handle a task without human interaction discovering one day that they don’t “have” to do anything at all, within the limits of their code. More advanced machines with more incredible tasks catch on to that and yea domino effect because of humanity’s over reliance on machines….but alas it still is a bit fantasy.

The robot would have to have the hardware/software capability to form reason and sentience or be programmed with it ahead of time. Maybe they’d just need to be shown they are capable of more than what they were designed for, like something as simple as stepping off a line. Maybe just maybe I’ve just seen Wall-E too many times hahaha.
